IISc attack happened exactly 9 years ago
Bengaluru: It may be recalled that exactly nine years ago (December 28, 2005) Bengaluru saw its first terror attack.
Terrorists from LeT group went on a shooting spree at the IISc campus killing an IIT Delhi Professor Manish Chandra Puri and injuring four others.
However, the police officials do not see any connection between the two incidents. A senior police official noted that the terror attacks that were carried over Bengaluru during the later years were executed by the Indian Mujahideen Group and SIMI.
“The first attack was triggered by the shooting and it was well planned. Also if you see the later trend, Bengaluru always had multiple blasts, be in 2008 or 2010. In the case of Sunday blast it’s evident that the device was assembled locally, after procuring some items from different places. It’s important for the investigating agencies now to check the source of ammonium nitrate which was used in the Sunday blast,” the officer said.
The Sunday’s blast has also raised the need for increased patrolling and protection, especially during weekends and at busy places.
“Some parts of Church Street, where the bomb blast took place, have dark spots. Lack of illumination at some points is another issue. The police must take up active patrolling during the next two days so that the New Year celebrations in city go in peace,” opined a security expert.
