Stop firing, says India after ‘relentless’ Pakistan continues ceasefire violations

Pakistan hits out says India does not understand ‘peace’

New Delhi: Union home minister Rajnath Singh has asked Pakistan to stop ceasefire violations and said while India has been offering its hand of friendship, the neighbouring country is repeatedly targeting border areas in India.

“Pakistan is our neighbouring country and we want good ties with all our neighbouring countries. Pakistan should stop cease-fire violations,” Mr Singh told reporters on Saturday. He wondered why Pakistan was continuously indulging in ceasefire violations, despite having suffered badly every time.

“While we are offering our hand of friendship to Pakistan, it is continuously indulging in ceasefire violations. We made a beginning by inviting Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the swearing-in of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who shook hands with him offering not just friendship but also hoping to unite hearts. Despite that, Pakistan is indulging in ceasefire violations repeatedly,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan defence minister Khawaja Mohammed Asif said it seems India does not understand the “language of peace”. He said, “Pakistan loves peace but it seems India does not understand the language of peace.”

Mr Asif also said that during the past six months Islamabad has worked hard towards maintaining peace “but it looks like India needs to be taught in its own language”.

He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made his intentions somewhat clear by expressing himself in an “extremist attitude”. Mr Asif said the issue of “Indian aggressiveness” has already been raised in multiple forums by Pakistan and now the government in Islamabad was contemplating taking up the issue with the UN.
