Popular Telugu actor Kota Srinivasa Rao has been honoured with the Padma Shri award. The versatile, veteran actor of more than 500 films is very happy with the award. “I never expected that I would get this award.
It is a surprise for me and this one is for the recognition of my work,” says Kota. He thanked all his producers, directors and other actors for their support and encouragement which enabled him to act in more than 500 films.
“I owe it to the Telugu Film Industry, for taking me to new levels,” says Kota. He started his acting career as a comedian with the film Pranam Kareedu in 1978, and has never looked back. He went on to play different characters, and also established himself as one of the best villains.
He is popular as he speaks different dialects effortlessly, especially the Telangana language. The film Pathighatana which is released in 1986 was the turning point in his career.
Kota also acted in a few Hindi films, mostly with Ram Gopal Varma. Before he entered films, Kota worked in theatre. He has also served as a MLA from Vijayawada East. He has won six Nandi awards.
