Safe Colony Concept: Residents to be given IDs

Several incidents of theft have been reported from the identified colonies

Hyderabad: The police will issue ID cards to residents, which they will have to produce while entering the colony during the restricted hours.

The registered welfare associations will assist the local police in choosing the route that is to be kept open at night. Cops will also note the numbers of agencies like newspaper men, cable operators, milk suppliers, domestic servants, electricians and others from the RWA. Police says that in most cases, the accused is known to the family.

Associations of the colonies under the North Zone that have not been identified yet by the police can contact the regional police station and the cops will study the area and the number of crimes reported.

The authorities are willing to provide infrastructure like barricades for the entry and exit points but the associations should install CCTV cameras and set up a monitoring room. Based on the demand, extra patrolling will be done. Several incidents of theft have been reported from the identified colonies.

On January 23, the house of one Ajay Harinath of Tadbund, Bowenpally, was robbed of Rs 25 lakh cash, gold biscuits and ornaments weighing about 4 kg. The victim had suspected his worker, driver and watchman, who were present at home during his absence. On January 27, a team from the Karkhana police station apprehended the driver Mohd. Tahsin Ali and his brother Mohd Mohsin Ali. They had used a duplicate key to commit the crime.

“In most of the crimes reported, the accused are either workers, known persons or people who are well known in the area,” added Law and Order officials.
