Sharad Pawar to contest BCCI elections: reports

The former ICC chairman has earlier served as BCCI chief from 2005 to 2008

Mumbai: Former BCCI president and ex-International Cricket Council chairman Sharad Pawar will contest elections of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, according to reports.

While he was head of ICC from 2010 to 2012, he held BCCI top post from 2005 to 2008.

The post of BCCI chief is up for grabs after the Supreme Court asked N Srinivasan to resign after the IPL scandal broke. While Sunil Gavaskar took over the duties as BCCI chief, he held that position during IPL 7. Shivlal Yadav is currently serving as the interim chief of Indian cricket board.

After Supreme Court declared, Srinivasan needs to choose between CSK and a post in BCCI, it is learnt that the Tamil Nadu strongman would sell CSK and opt to function as a BCCI official.

The hearing on IPL spot fixing scandal postponed elections of the Indian cricket board elections twice. In January, the apex court ordered BCCI to hold their elections within the next six weeks.
