Penugonda: As the entire nation and the state celebrated India’s victory over arch rival Pakistan in Australia, a sad incident occurred at a cricket ground in the Pekeru village of Iragavaram mandal in West Godavari district during a game.
According to sources, Velugodu Subrahmanyam, 15, studying in Class X at Penugonda went to Pekeru to play cricket along with his friends.
While taking runs between the wickets, after hitting a ball, he suddenly collapsed and did not wake up.
He was rushed to a private hospital immediately where doctors declared him brought dead. It is suspected that he might have suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
His father Dhanaraj works in a clothes shop and the deceased is his only son, besides a daughter. His teammates and other inhabitants of the village were in a state of shock and disbelief.
