Hyderabad: Liquor shop owners in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are gearing up for a demonstration to protest the lack of supply from the AP, TS Beverage Corporation Ltd. The corporation was closed on Sunday after it was served an income-tax notice for about 1,470 crore.
The dealers say they fear a huge loss as the fast moving liquor brands are running out of stock. Moreover, this Holi, tipplers may have to opt for a brand other than their choice if the matter is not resolved before that.
The state governments need to resolve the issue by Wednesday; the courts are closed on March 5 and 6 if the administrations want to take the legal route. The income-tax department served an attachment notice to the AP Beverages Corporation Ltd (including TS BCL) on Saturday asking to pay due taxes of Rs1,468.63 crore. The notice mentioned that the due amount was till 2012-2013 excluding interest.
