Islamabad: The Pakistani authorities on Saturday issued a fresh detention order for Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, a day after a court ordered his release.
The Islamabad HC had ordered the release of Lakhvi on Friday, terming his detention as illegal. An official said the Punjab government issued an order to keep Lakhvi in detention for another one month. On December 18, 2014, Islamabad deputy commissioner Mujahid Sherdil had issued
Lakhvi’s detention order has been extended for the third time.
The prime objective of the detention was to prevent Lakhvi from attending any public meeting and potentially regrouping with his militant outfit. Lakhvi’s lawyer Rizwan Abbasi argued that an anti-terrorism court had granted bail to his client but the government was flouting the court orders by not releasing him.
