I was scared, wanted Ravi transferred, says IAS officer’s father-in-law

Hanumantharayappa rubbished speculation that Ravi’s suicide was because of a quarrel between the couple

Bengaluru: Mr Hanumantharayappa, IAS officer D.K. Ravi’s father-in-law, admitted on Wednesday that he was the one who sought Mr Ravi’s transfer from Kolar to Bengaluru as he sensed a threat for him there.

Addressing the media at his house in Nagarbhavi, Mr Hanumantharayappa said that Mr Ravi was happy working in the city, and it was evident from the number of raids he conducted on different companies in the city.

Rubbishing speculation that Mr Ravi’s suicide was because of a quarrel between the couple over family issues or an alleged love affair, he clarified that there were no issues between the couple and they were happy with each other.

“The family is still clueless about his death. I still cannot believe that my son-in-law committed suicide. If he hanged himself then there should be a strong reason behind it. By committing suicide, he has let down not only his wife, but also his parents, brother and sister,” he said.

“Mr Ravi’s family wants a CBI probe. I too support that. We all want the truth to come out at the earliest,” he said.

‘He was enraged while talking over phone’

IAS officer D.K. Ravi was reportedly enraged while talking to someone over phone, the day before and on the day of his death.

The caller had allegedly told Mr Ravi to have a look at a CD that was placed on his office table.

Mr B. Puttanna, who is the deputy chairman in the Legislative Council and also a relative of Mr Ravi’s wife Kusuma, told this newspaper that Mr Ravi was recording all the conversations he had on three occasions, two on Sunday, and the third one on Monday morning.

“If the CID verifies his call detail records, they will probably make a breakthrough,” Mr. Puttanna said.
