Hyderabad: BJP national president Amit Shah on Sunday approved the road map for strengthening the party in Telangana for the 2019 elections and assured to arrange a programme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state before the GHMC polls.

Mr Shah also asked Telangana BJP leaders to take appropriate decisions regarding continuing the party’s ties with the Telangana Telugu Desam by involving local party units.

State BJP president G. Kishen Reddy, BJP Legislature Party leader Dr K. Laxman, party national general secretary P. Muralidhara Rao, Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya and Union minister and party in-charge for Telangana Hansaraj Gangaram Ahir, took part in the meeting.

Mr Shah went through the road map prepared by the state BJP unit on strengthening the party. While approving the same, he reportedly told the leaders to go to each and every village and get representation for the party.

The party membership enrolment target of 35 lakh was extended to April 30 from March 31 in view of the Graduate MLC polls.

On the request of state party leaders, Mr Shah also agreed to arrange party programmes, including a massive public rally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before the GHMC polls.

The party leaders informed him about the upcoming pending GHMC elections, Sanathnagar Assembly bypoll, Warangal Lok Sabha bypoll, Khammam and Warangal Municipal Corporation polls, wherein the party can post impressive results.

Mr Shah informed the leaders that the Prime Minister and he himself had decided to depute Union ministers to tour Telangana, participate in party programmes and government activities and to pump in central government funds for several schemes. He asked them to highlight these for the BJP to gain more support among people.

Sources said Mr Shah also repeatedly mentioned that all the leaders should camp in villages for a minimum of five days in April.
