Is Microsoft trying to invade Android smartphones?
Recently, Microsoft went ahead to show off their Windows 10 Operating System installed and running on the Xiaomi MI 4 smartphone. The move was made along with Chinese MI fan community in China, stating that Windows 10 can now be installed and used on the Xiaomi MI4.
Is Microsoft trying to invade Android smartphones? Well, with Android and iOS smartphones being on the top of the smartphone market, Microsoft is sure to feel the heat. However, by making their operating system work across other smartphone brands, Microsoft seems to open up their gates and expanding their operating system across other mobile platforms too.
Hugo Barra, VP for Xiaomi, stated that Microsoft is experimenting with the Xiaomi MI 4 devices and has not confirmed a dual booting option for the MI 4. The
Microsoft is also rumoured to launch their operating system for ZTE smartphones with the ZTE Nubia Z9 already seen running Windows 10 as well.
‘Through a new program with Xiaomi, one of the top smartphone distributors in the world, a select group of Xiaomi Mi 4 power users will be invited to help test Windows 10 and contribute to its future release later this year. These power users will have the opportunity to download the Windows 10 Technical Preview – installing it and providing their feedback to Microsoft,’ states Microsoft on their Windows blog.
Microsoft expanding their operating system to other mobile platforms is a great move, and smartphone users can now also get a feel of the Windows operating system on their existing smartphones. However, installing Windows on an Android-based smartphone is not as easy as it seems. It requires a few skills to backup, install and reinstall operating systems on smartphones. The procedure requires the user to root the smartphone, which voids all warranty on the device from the manufacturer. Xiaomi allows the user to root their handsets and play around with different operating systems without losing their warranty. Hence, experimenting with Xiaomi smartphones is safer.
