Xiaomi to launch Mi 5 along with new MIUI V7

Xiaomi is said to be working on MIUI V7 and codenamed it as MiKangy

Xiaomi seems to be feeling a little heat, especially with rival smartphones getting better and with many opting for custom Android ROMs. Xiaomi is famous for their home-brewed MIUI custom Android-based operating system for almost five years and presently on version V6. However, the Chinese smartphone giant is working on the next version of MIUI, V7, and boasts of automatic personalization optimization.

The news about the next flagship Mi smartphone, the Mi 5, is also in the open. The company stated that they will unveil the Xiaomi Mi 5 with the MIUI V7 operating system based on Android Lollipop.

The Xiaomi news blog mentioned ‘Android ROM developers like Cyanogen and ParanoidAndroid have been partnering with hardware manufacturers to help these phone makers differentiate themselves in a crowded and competitive marketplace. Today, Team Kang at AOKP announced that it will be working with Xiaomi as the latter starts work on MIUI 7’.

MIUI 7 will be based on Android 5.1 and will debut on the Xiaomi Mi 5. The UI is known internally as MiKangy and is expected to combine all of the features available with Cyanogen, PA, Omni and AOKP. According to a post on the Team Kang website, MIUI 7 will allow users to "create an experience which completely submerges the user in his own world."

MIUI 7 will be designed to evolve with the user and this will allow each Mi 5 owner to have different, personal experiences with the phone. The latest speculation involving the Mi5 calls for the handset to be released during the fourth quarter of this year.’

The AOKP Blog mentions, ‘MIUI 7, (which the team internally calls codename MiKangy, not to be confused with MiKandi), is a whole new take on the Android UX. The idea behind it is to kang all important features from the top ROMs like CM, PA, Omni and AOKP and create an experience which completely submerges the user in his own world. The UI will evolve with the user, and thus a few months after usage, the UI of each Mi 5 phone will be different – personalised to the traits of its individual user.’

Xiaomi has not officially announced any dates or details about the operating system and the new flagship smartphone. However, we are all ears.
