After farmer’s suicide, BJP to change tack; may rethink on tabling Land Bill in Parliament
New Delhi: With the agrarian crisis back in centre stage in the wake of suicide by a farmer in full public glare, the BJP government seems to be having a rethink on its strategy on tabling of the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill in Parliament.
The government was planning to table the Bill, on which the Ordinance was re-promulgated, during the last week of the current leg of the Budget Session. However, now sources say there might be a change in the strategy.

Speculation was rife that there was feeling within government that rushing through the Land Bill especially after the incident would prove suicidal for it at this stage.
The government was has been maintaining that it was committed to passing the Land Bill, but now finds itself in a bind. The government was confident of getting the Bill through in the Lok Sabha, but now seems to be having second thoughts about bringing the Bill in the light of a farmer from Rajasthan committing suicide in full media glare on Wednesday.

The Opposition had on Thursday forced statements from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Rajnath Singh on the issue. Mr Modi called the suicide by the farmer an unfortunate incident and called for solutions that would resolve farmers’ problems.
