Hyderabad tourists recall horrifying scenes of Nepal's earthquake

The group cancelled their trips to Kashi and directly came to Hyderabad on flight

Hyderabad: A group of pilgrims from Hyderabad, who were stranded in Kathmandu for more than 15 hours, recalled the horrifying scenes they witnessed in Nepal’s capital and surroundings following Saturday’s earthquake. They moved to the open ground after abandoning their hotels and travelled to the Kathmandu Airport at night as they were informed that Indian Air Force flights would take them to Delhi.

The group cancelled their trips to Kashi and directly came to Hyderabad on flight by Sunday night with the help of the state government. “There is massive damage. We saw rubble and debris all over the place. People were afraid to enter buildings even at midnight. We, too, stayed in an open space till we got information about Indian Air Force (IAF) flights taking Indians to Delhi,” said Mr Gattu Srinivas, a 47-year-old trader from Vijayanagar of Malkajgiri, who was one of the pilgrims stranded in Kathmandu.

The pilgrims had kept their luggage in a hotel near the Pashupatinath temple, and had come outside to wait for their transport to go for sightseeing when the tremor occurred on Saturday.
