Tourism at Nallamala forest gets a boost
There is no tourism in the Nallamala forest currently
Hyderabad: Adventure tourists will soon be able to stay in rugged ‘tiger lodges’ in the Nallamala forests to get a feel of the wild, and even trek up to 30 km into the the interiors.
This is one of the projects that AP Tourism is developing to make use of the nature’s bounty. Tourism officials have chalked out the plan and are in talks with the forest department.
There is no tourism in the Nallamala forest currently; a watch tower and guest house at Farhabad was blown up by Maoists some years ago. The area has since remained out of bounds for tourists.
“It is for the first time after the watch tower was blown up that a tourism project is being planned. Since the Maoists are no longer a threat, opening up the peripheral areas of the forest for eco-tourism would be ideal,” said a senior official. The Nallamala forests provide the largest trek in the entire southern region; the sanctuary has close to 70 tigers.
Currently, Rajasthan Tourism is the only one to have an arrangement with the local forest department to allow tourists to stay inside the Ranthambore sanctuary.
