Swachh Hyderabad: Leaders, VIPs spend a clean Sunday
Hyderabad: Thousands of tonnes of garbage and debris were cleared on day two of the Swachh Hyderabad programme. Nearly 36,000 employees of the state government, divided into 425 sections, were busy cleaning the city since 7 am. An inventory of the civic amenities and those lacking is being prepared by section in-charges across the city. The process will continue for the next three days.
The Governor, Chief Minister, ministers and IAS, IPS officers were seen participating in the respective sections and interacting with the colony residents.
Speaking with the residents at the Anandnagar community hall, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan said, “The efforts to make Hyderabad ‘swachh’ shouldn’t be stopped after the five-day programme. People should take up the task of keeping it clean throughout the year. Spend one day a week on this.” Mr Narasimhan ensured that the garbage being dumped in the open and unused plots was cleared.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday stressed, “There is no shortage of money for development works to be completed in the city. All we need is the people’s support.” Deputy CM Mahmood Ali conducted a door-to-door survey in Azampura area and spoke with the residents about their requirements. He said that the area had two community halls and one of it would be converted into a library soon.
Speaking about the programmes that will be taken up under the campaign, GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar said, “In the second week of June, at least 50 lakh saplings will be planted across the city as part of the programme.”
