Hyderabad: The city is witnessing unscheduled powercuts, especially during night hours. Many areas in Secunderabad reported unplanned cuts from 1 am to 4 am on Wednesday. In colonies in Begumpet’s Methodist Colony, power was cut for eight hours on Monday and Wednesday for wire replacements.
B. Debby, a resident of Rehmat Gulshan Colony, Gachibowli, said, “The entire Colony is facing short and long power cuts daily, most of them in the middle of the night or early morning. IT employees, who come back from work at around 3 am or 4 am, have to wait till the power comes back to go to sleep. Many people on early morning shifts have to get ready in the dark. This is really frustrating. How can they have power cuts at such timings?”
E. Ravi Kiran Reddy, a resident of Ranigung area, added, “We have frequent ups and downs in power supply (low voltage), and due to this, electrical goods at home are being damaged, especially the air conditioner and the LED TV. We have given written complaints at the nearest sub-station, but no action has been taken. The power goes in two phases.
Earlier, we used to manage with one phase, however, this un-scheduled shutdown is disturbing our sleep.”
“The electricity board should at least send out a release mentioning the timings. Power cuts during the night hours are dreadful. And above it all, the city is recording 40°C temperatures. The board should instead cut power during the early evening hours (if needed). These timings are affecting many,” added Satwika Reddy, from Begumpet.
The city’s consumption, as per the official version, is about 50.5 million units per day. The unrestricted peak load demand is 2,100 mega watts.
