All-rounder Hanuma Vihari sparkles in English cricket league

Hyderabad: Riding on Hyderabad cricketer Hanuma Vihari’s all-round brilliance, Hutton Cricket Club registered a clinical win in their Essex League first XI Division One match at the Oakfield ground in England.

Hutton CC (289/5 in 40 overs) defeated Hainault and Clayhall Cricket Club (255/9 in 52 overs) by 34 runs.

The Hyderabadi slammed an unbeaten 200 from just 117 balls — a knock that contained 23 boundaries and 10 sixes.

Earlier, Hutton CC were in a spot of bother after losing their first wicket with just 12 runs on the board. In came Vihari, who along with Hugh O’Dell (57), thrashed Hainault and Clayhall’s bowlers as they put on 118 runs for the second wicket.

The city lad was not done just yet. He then came back to pick up five crucial wickets — including that of the opener Umar Shafiq, who was batting on 55 — in 20 overs giving away 64 runs.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Thomas’ allround performance went in vain as St Ives lost their Tucker Gardner Premier League match. St Ives (163/8 in 48 overs) lost to Fordham CC (166/6 in 46 overs) by four wickets. Batting first, Benjamin hit 85 runs, including 11 boundaries and one maximum, to emerge the top-scorer for the team.

J. Hardy (4/43) was the pick of the bowlers for Fordham. Fordham’s C. Samiskill (40) and S. Khan (24) put the bowlers to the sword as they chased down the target in 46 overs with four wickets in hand. T. McCarthy (2/24) shone with the ball for St Ives while Benjamin (2/36) too impressed.
