Soon after bifurcation, Vijayawada led the race for the capital city, until Tullur and its surrounding villages were named. While it was being considered for the capital city initially, business in Vijayawada grew with more ventures coming up and with the floating population rapidly increasing.
Vijayawada also became the focal point of industries like entertainment, hospitality, healthcare etc. and several entertainment centres and hospitals were established while over half a dozen international hospitality majors committed to set up their star hotels in the city in the near future.
With ministers setting up their camp offices in the city, it has given a fillip to the administrative activity in the city. Irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao became the first minister to set up his headquarters in Vijayawada instead of Hyderabad. Later, minister Kamineni Srinivasa Rao decided to work from the NTR Health University.
