It takes 2 weeks to test Maggi noodles
Hyderabad: The governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have ordered tests on samples of Maggie noodles following the nationwide alert on the presence of mono sodium glutamate and lead. The 22 samples picked up for both the states are being tested at the Institute of Preventive Medicine laboratory at Nacharam.
Dr K. Amarender Reddy, director of IPM, Telangana, explained, “The time to test the samples is two weeks and only after that action can be taken.” He said the directive for picking up samples came from the Central Food Safety Authority. “We have been specifically asked to check for MSG and lead,” Dr Amarender Reddy said.
The test results will be verified by sending the samples to another government approved laboratory and then only released as per the orders from the food safety authorities of the two states, he said.
TS health minister Dr C. Laxma Reddy said, “The food authority is free to take action if anything is found wrong. We do not want to encourage consumption of such foods.”
