Mumbai: Ajinkya Rahane is clearly the new star of Indian cricket. Be it his patience Down Under or consistency in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rahane’s magic has worked wonders for the Men in Blue. With his steady and rock solid approach, one may easily call him a rock star. And today, on June 6 (2015), he turns 27 – which, as they say, is a rocker’s age.
But he is no Jim Morrison or a Jimi Hendrix. Their life ended at 27 but Rahane’s time has just begun.
His cricket started in Dombivli, beyond Thane, where he used to train on mat. The family wasn’t financially stable to afford proper coaching. But it was Rahane’s talent that outdid the obstacles.
Soon, Pravin Amre (former India and Mumbai cricketer) took the boy under his wings and wrote an entire new script. Today, Rahane’s wicket is precious to opponents, both in Tests and limited overs.
The 27-year-old made his Test debut in 2013 and in two years, he averages 44.87 with 1,077 runs. His ODI records (1,584 at 31.05) is not at par with Tests because he wasn’t a regular since taking guard in 2011.
On the other hand, the boy has been on a roll for Mumbai in the domestic season and also helped Mumbai win their 38th Ranji Trophy.
In IPL 2015, he lost the Orange Cup by a whisker to David Warner. Rahane scored 540 runs with four half-centuries.
Let’s wish him more power on his birthday so that he continues doing what he does best.
