Movie review 'Krishnamma Kalipindi Iddarini': An outdated love story
It is a remake of a Kannada film Charminar
Cast: Sudheer Babu, Nanditha, Posani, Pranathi, Giri Babu and Raghubabu
Director: R Chandru
Rating: 2.5 stars
Producer Lagadapati Sridhar took his time to settle on a good release date for his film Krishnamma Kalipindi Iddarini. It is a remake of a Kannada film Charminar. R. Chandru, who directed the Kannada version, has directed the Telugu film too. Sudheer Babu and Nanditha are the lead pair in this emotional love story. Krishna (Sudheer Babu) is a successful businessman in the US and he is invited by his friends to attend the alumni meet in Krishnapuram village. He agrees to attend the meet as he can see his old love Radha (Nanditha). He immediately packs his bags to travels to his native village, which is on the banks of Krishna. Enroute, he narrates his story starting from his school days to graduation. He also reveals how he fell in love with Radha in Class VIII.
Both Krishna and Radha hail from the same village and both are from poor families. Though he loves Radha deeply, he has never expressed it to her due to some incidents. Radha’s mother (Pragathi) had requested Krishna to leave her daughter alone. Krishna then concentrates on his studies and completes graduation. He moves to the US and leads a good life. Will he be able to confess his feelings to Radha at this old student’s meet forms the crux of the story.
Director R. Chandru is known for his love stories in Kannada and they are big hits there. He is now making his debut in Telugu with the same subject. Though it is a big hit in Kannada, he should have made a few changes keeping Telugu audience in mind. The film moves at a very slow pace and tends to become boring. But there are a few emotional scenes where the director shows his skills. The theme is also an outdated one in Telugu, but the director has come up with a surprising climax.
Sudheer Babu plays three different shades in the film and showcases his acting skills. As a teenager he looks too old, but he does his best as a college boy and later a successful businessman. He has worked hard on his character and the efforts show. Nanditha has also done reasonably well though she has a limited role. The young Sudheer Babu is played by producer Sridhar’s son Vikram. Posani, Raghubabu and Giribabu support the characters well. One of the highlights is the photography. Some of the dialogues are meaningful though the music is just average. The director could have handled it better. But the film is clean and also has a message.
