Art works by tribes on sale at Poompuhar
The bamboo paintings bring in realistic scenery with the use of natural green leaves
COIMBATORE: A painting of the Taj Mahal carved with bits and pieces of different kinds of wood are joined carefully to make curves and corners of the monuments giving it a 3D look. A fabric colour painting on a Tussar silk, a beautiful replica of a Ravi Verma painting, a lady with the lamp giving it a realistic look of a south Indian woman clad in sari and many more paintings are on display at Poompuhar.
Themed as the 'paintings of Indian exhibition' the work of artisans from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Odisha, Maharashtra and Gujarat are all in the stalls. The Thanjavur painting, an ancient and famous art of Tamil Nadu, Mysore's rosewood inlay paintings, Rajasthan’s marble paintings, tribal Gond paintings, Saura paintings of Odisha, Pata-Chitra paintings, Maharashtra’s landscape and Warli paintings, silk cloth paintings, bamboo paintings, canvas paintings and Gujarat Pithora paintings are all on sale to decorate your living room.
The tribal Gond painting is oil on canvas. The bamboo paintings bring in realistic scenery with the use of natural green leaves and the painting is framed with bamboo sticks. Paintings on the high-class lifestyle of Mughals painted on old antique papers coloured with vegetable oils. There is also an embossed painting of anb elephant carrying a Mughal king.
Interesting gemstone paintings from Rajasthan are grabbing attention. Colourful dust and waste bits of precious stones are collected by the artisans and are given a creative approach framed in a glass.
“Tribes of India have brought articles from Odisha. We are expecting sales of Rs 5 lakh from this exhibition. A discount of 10 per cent is available on all the paintings and the price range of the painting starts from Rs 50 to Rs 12,000,” said Poompuhar manager, R. Narendra Bose. The exhibition cum sale is on till July 14 from 10 am to 8 pm at the Poompuhar showroom.
