Vijayawada, Amaravati twin cities
Hyderabad: The new capital city Amaravati and Vijayawada will be twin cities in AP according to Singapore planners, who submitted the seed capital master plan to the government, recently.
According to Surbana and Jurong consultants who planned the capital, “Amaravati and Vijayawada will grow as twin cities in future due to their proximity. The economies of the two cities will complement each other and emerge as a Mega City.”
The city plan was drafted to ensure that Amaravati amalgamates into Vijayawada. The capital city is only 12 km from Vijayawada and 20 km from Guntur.
It falls in Thullur, Mangalagiri, Tadepalli mandals of Guntur district; Ibrahimpatnam and Vijayawada Rural mandals of Krishna district.
“Initially the capital city boundary was limited to Guntur district. The team analysed the earlier site and suggested considering development on both sides of the Krishna River. This allows controlled development in the waterfront villages in Krishna district that face the new business district and capital complex located right across the river,” the planners said.
