Chennai: Principal Sessions court in Chennai has dismissed the bail plea of a youth who was arrested on charges of raping a 20-year old mentally challenged girl. According to prosecution, the victim was studying in a school in Maduravoyal and had come to live with her aunt during summer holidays.
On May 26, 2015 at 6 pm, when the aunt was busy in her household work, the victim was seated outside the residence.
Pradeep alias Prabudeva, 26, of Tiruchy, noticed the girl and forcefully took her to the terrace of the building and raped her. Hearing the victim’s screams, the aunt rushed to the terrace and found Pradeep forcing himself on the girl.
A case was registered under section 376 (Punishment for rape) of IPC by the Washermenpet police. Pradeep was arrested. In the bail petition, Pradeep stated that he was innocent and police foisted case against him.
However, opposing the bail plea, City Public Prosecutor, M.L. Jegan contended that Pradeep committed serious offence against a mentally challenged woman. Hence, he must not be enlarged on bail.
