Forget Coca-Cola, here are the shocking effects of beer on your body
This infographic explains the science behind how your body processes beer in the first 24 hours after consumption
London: After appalling affects of coke and diet coke were revealed by Niraj Naik recently, scientists have now shown what beer does to your body, and it's shocking! A website called alcoholgifts.co.uk has disclosed what happens up to 24 hours after drinking beer, the Daily Star reported.
In the 5 minutes of sipping the alcohol, it is absorbed into the bloodstream and then travels all over the body including the brain and around muscles.
After 10 minutes, the body sees the alcohol as a poison, and hence aims to break it down to get rid of it as quickly as possible, and 5 minutes from that produces the enzyme 'Alcohol dehydrogenase' which converts the alcohol into chemicals including Acetaldehyde (a toxic which contributed largely to the hangover the next day), then into acetic acid and finally fatty acids and water (the final two the body likes). Though a person sobers you up after this, if they drink more than the liver can handle, they get drunk.
20 minutes later, the alcohol starts affecting and feelings of light headedness, happiness among other emotions creep in, while after 45 minutes alcohol level starts to peak in the blood.
When an hour is complete, people generally feel like relieving themselves as alcohol is a diuretic the kidneys direct drink directly to the bladder, which causes the need to go to the toilet more often and dehydrates you. If a person stops drinking, they're likely to feel sleepy although the quality of sleep won't be good.
When person wakes after 12-24 hours, they'll likely feel symptoms of a hangover such as headaches, dizziness, thirst, paleness and tremors, most of which are caused by dehydration, with the body trying to deal with any excess alcohol in your system.
