Uttar Pradesh: Mother dies after doctors leave baby's head in her womb

Doctors pulled out the body of her newborn baby girl and left the head inside her womb

Lucknow: In another case of medical negligence, doctors in an Uttar Pradesh hospital left the head of a newborn baby in the mother’s womb, according to reports.

Geeta Devi, 32, was admitted to a hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur after she complained to labour pain.

The doctors in the hospital pulled out the body of the baby, leaving the head in the womb. She was taken to another hospital but was turned away from there and sent to another government hospital.

At the next hospital, the doctors managed to remove the head but could not save the life of the new mother.

Geeta's husband Hemant, 40, from Sadar Bazar, in Shahjahanpur blamed the doctors of the hospital for negligence.

While investigations are on to find out which doctor was on duty, Deputy Superintendent of Shahjahanpur Police, K G Yadav, said that the hospital was not equipped to deal with such a complex delivery as it did not have sufficient medical arrangements.

The District Magistrate of Shahjahanpur, Shubhra Saxena, has confirmed the investigation into the horrific negligence. 'It is a severe case of negligence and we are investigating the matter,' she was quoted as saying.
