BCCI to move Supreme Court on N Srinivasan issue

The board will ask top court whether the Chennai strongman can attend its meetings

Mumbai: Former BCCI president N Srinivasan resides in a world of his own, a globe that he expects to revolve only when he touches it. His act of forcing himself into a Working Committee meeting in Kolkata on Friday adjourned the session. Now, the Indian cricket board has decided to move Supreme Court to seek clarity on Srinivasan’s eligibility to attend such summits.

“We are planning to take the legal route in the next couple of days on the matter,” said a BCCI source, echoing president Jagmohan Dalmiya’s words.

Srinivasan – currently the ICC chairman – was shown the door by the apex court for smooth investigation into the spot-fixing case that broke out during IPL 2013, during his regime. The order barred him from participating in BCCI affairs.

“The meeting has been postponed till we get a clarification from Supreme Court, whether he (Srinivasan) is allowed to be present in the board meetings,” added the source.

Srinivasan was adamant to be present in the Working Committee meeting despite murmurs from a few board members.

Earlier, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla asserted that the meeting is possible only after gaining precision from the top court on the Srinivasan issue.

Srinivasan’s act of throwing his weight isn’t new. The Tamil Nadu strongman – during the ICC World Cup final, held in Melbourne – did not let the then ICC president Mustafa Kamal present the trophy to Michael Clarke (Australia) – the winning captain. Srinivasan himself did the honours.
