In a week that saw two releases, Muddu Manase was definitely not the first choice. Yet, despite its retro style love story in a typical climax, the movie is a surprise for its honest film-making and overall performances by the lead actors.
Just another dejected love story with a different shade of entertainment, it is set in a village and then moves to an urban setting which revolves around the protagonist portrayed by debutant Arun Gowda. From a poor background, living with his widowed mother, selling vegetables for survival, he comes across a beautiful girl — Nithya Ram, the older sister of popular actress Rachita Ram.
Nithya falls madly in love with him, and soon faces opposition by her father, a police officer. The scene then shifts to the city, where the hero has taken shelter with a distant relative. In between all this is a flashback involving the hero rescuing a couple from a psycho lover.
By the interval, the hero loses his mother and also his love is forcibly married off. Aishwarya Nag who plays the second heroine is a welcome change with her tomboyish looks and attitude, and she falls for the hero. She is the daughter of his distant relative, and this newfound love depends on a little “flashback.” The songs are the best part of the film which makes the normal experience extraordinary. Watchable, and recommended for those who missed their first love for similar reasons!
