Kerala all set to deal with strike
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Normal life across the state is likely to be affected on Wednesday in view of the stir by trade unions and service organisations.
The police will beef up security across the state to prevent untoward incidents during the 24-hour stir beginning from Tuesday midnight till Wednesday midnight.
Except BMS, all prominent unions like INTUC, AITUC and CITU are taking part in the stir to press 12 demands.
According to the joint action council of trade unions, transport services would be affected by the stir as motor workers are taking part in the strike.
Since the service organisations are also joining the strike, functioning of government offices will be also affected.
Many private schools have even declared a holiday on Wednesday as transport services will be off the road.
Shops are also likely to remain closed during the day. Workers of banking, insurance and railway sector are also taking part in the nation-wide stir.
The state government had already invoked Essential Services Maintenance Act to deal with the strike. Government employees will be granted leave only if there are unavoidable circumstances.
District collectors were directed to ensure protection and hassle-free entry of officials to offices.
The government also warned of stern action against those indulging in violence as part of the stir. Any temporary employees taking part in the stir would be terminated immediately, the government warned.
Police sources said that transport facility and police security would be provided at important places like bus stands and railway stations. Essential services have been exempted from the stir.
