Uncertainty over how Hyderabad will be split
Hyderabad: Uncertainty continues over whether Hyderabad district will be divided to four or five new districts. The government plans to include some areas from the neighbouring districts, especially Ranga Reddy and Medak, to create new districts in the GHMC limits. It has planned re-organisation of revenue divisions and mandals before creating new districts.
While the government is in favour of creating five new districts, revenue officials said that four would be enough. Hyderabad district currently has two revenue divisions.
The Hyderabad revenue division covers Amberpet, Asifnagar, Bahadurpura, Bandlaguda, Charminar, Golconda, Himayathnagar, Nampally and Saidabad mandals, while the Secunderabad revenue division covers Ameerpet, Khairatabad, Marredpally, Musheerabad, Secunderabad, Shaikpet and Trimulgherry mandals.
Revenue officials feel that at least five revenue divisions need to be created due to rapid urbanisation of the city during the last two decades.
Officials also pitch for reorganisation of mandals since the population in the mandals crossed 2 lakh, while the ideal figure should be about 50,000 to provide effective services.
They said the 16 mandals in the city have to be increased up to 40 based on population. They said that the number of new districts in GHMC limits should be decided after the reorganisation of revenue divisions and mandals.
