Arun Kumar casts Vijay Sethupathy as a cop for the first time
The film is a realistic story that revolves around a police station, a cop and his family
Arun Kumar, who made his debut in K’town with the critically-acclaimed Pannaiyarum Padminiyum, believes that strong casting is important to a film’s success. The director is now back with a cop-thriller titled Sethupathi, starring Vijay Sethupathi himself!
Arun shot to fame with the short film, which won the Nalaiya Iyakkunar show, and now speaking to DC about the film, the engineer-turned-filmmaker says, Vijay plays an upright police inspector for the first time.
“When I write a script, I have certain people in mind, who I believe are suitable for playing the characters. This is one such film. I was very much clear in the beginning that Vijay Sethupathi has to do this movie. Similarly, the team felt Ramya would be appropriate for the role. In fact, her character has equal importance as the hero in the film. When you see the film, the audience can connect themselves to the cop’s role, I’m sure.” “
“Actress Remya Nambeesan returns as his heroine after Pizza. So far, audiences haven’t seen Vijay in an action avatar — this will be his first out-and-out action flick.
The film is a realistic story that revolves around a police station, a cop and his family. It’s an action thriller, but will have an equal dose of emotion and sentiment without any cinematic elements. Usually, we come across stories where a cop solves issues, but what if he’s caught in a problem himself forms the rest of the story.” So, has Vijay undergone any makeover for this? “Of late, he has been hitting the gym to beef up! But it’s not like he's sporting a six-pack or anything,” he concludes.
