BJP seeks political mileage, says PM package will come later
Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not announce any package for AP during Thursday's ceremony at Amaravati as part of political strategy, BJP sources said.
To get political mileage, Mr Modi will announced the package at a BJP public meeting to be arranged in Visakhapatnam and Tirupati later. The AP BJP expects strengthen the party in Rayalaseema and the north coastal regions of the state.
Thursday's function was arranged by the state government and if the PM had announced a package the credit would have gone to the TD, sources said. According to sources some BJP leaders suggested to the PM that if the package is announced at a party public meeting, the party will get political advantage.
AP BJP unit spokesperson S. Vishnuvardhan Reddy speaking to Deccan Chronicle said, “We want to develop our party in AP and we expect some political mileage.” Mr Reddy said that Mr Modi would come to Vizag to dedicate the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Phase II to the nation, probably next month
The BJP will organise a public meeting at Vizag to mark the event, which will be addressed by Mr Modi, he said. The same day, the BJP will organise another public meeting at Tirupati. Mr Reddy said the PM is likely to announce a package to AP in either of these meetings.
AP finance officials said the Niti Aayog will take another two or three weeks to finalise the package to AP. Two days ago Niti Aayog officials had held a meeting with Central government officials and discussed the package. The Niti Aayog has asked the AP government for some more details including those pertaining to expenditure last month and previously in united AP. The Niti Aayog is expected to finalise the package and send to the Prime Minister for his approval.
