Need to monitor 20,000 Assisted Reproductive Technology centres

United Andhra Pradesh is the third highest with 400 centers

Hyderabad: With only 887 clinics registered in India as Assisted Reproductive Technology Centres, there is a need to monitor the alleged 20,000 centres in the country, which are operating without proper license.

United Andhra Pradesh is the third highest with 400 centres. This has made both Telugu states hubs for not only surrogacy but also for donor eggs and sperms.

A senior doctor said on condition of anonymity, “There are agents who source women from rural areas and present them at the clinics. Once the clinic is satisfied with their profile they are listed with them for donation.

But the agent is in the middle as far as the payments are concerned. It is here that the catch is. How much do they actually give the women? Also, when she has medical issues due to ovulation at a later stage, is she taken care of?

These points require to be clarified in the Bill to ensure safety of donor women.”
