Dr G. Parameshwar pushed Girish Karnad to apologise
Bengaluru: After Mr Girish Karnad was panned by all sections for his controversial statement comparing Tipu Sultan and Kempegowda, Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar on Wednesday asked the writer to apologise for his remarks.
During the Tipu Jayanti celebrations organised by the state government on Tuesday, Mr Karnad had said that the International Airport in Bengaluru should have been named after Tipu Sultan instead of Kempegowda.
Mr Parameshwar called Mr Karnad over phone, explained to him the controversy triggered by his statements and asked the writer to apologise through the media. Mr Karnad later apologised for his remarks against Bengaluru founder Kempegowda.
Mr Parameshwar said that since Mr Karnad has apologised, there is no need of drag the issue further. He requested the BJP not to use the issue for political gains. Mr Parameshwar claimed that the situation in Madikeri is under control. “The police have imposed prohibitory orders, which will be in force for a week. The police department has deputed adequate force in the district to avoid any untoward incidents,” he said.
Security has been provided to Mysuru MP Pratap Simha after he received death threats, he said.
