Corporation used 10 boats, nine arranged with the help of the fisheries department
Chennai: In the end, the Chennai Corporation had little choice but to take out boats and rescue stranded residents from areas which had submerged significantly due to the rainfall. The local body said it had utilised as many as 30 boats to rescue people in the southern regional zones like Perungudi, Jeppiar Nagar in Sholinganallur and Kalki Nagar, Tansi Nagar and Ram Nagar.
In zone 13, the corporation used 10 boats, nine arranged with the help of the fisheries department and one from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), to rescue stranded people from Kalki Nagar, Tansi Nagar, Ram Nagar, AGS colony and Seshadri Nagar.
In zone 15, pictures of boatmen rescuing stranded college students of a private engineering college in Jeppiar Nagar, Sholinganallur, made the rounds on social networking sites.
