Mystery deepens: Indrani said Sheena married in US

Vidhie tells CBI that her mother Indrani used to send emails or texts in her sister’s name

Mumbai: Vidhie Mukerjea, daughter of Indrani and Peter Mukerjea, has told CBI that when she tried to contact Sheena Bora after her disappearance in April 2012, she received a reply but from a new email id in Sheena’s name.

This may bolster CBI’s case that after murdering Sheena in April 2012 and disposing of her body, Indrani, her mother, used to send emails or text messages in her name. Vidhie, whose statement was recorded by CBI after it took over the case, also says that whenever she asked Indrani about Sheena’s whereabouts, Indrani used to get angry.

Indrani told her that Sheena had married a diamond merchant in the US, said Vidhie. “The police informed my father (Peter) and me that Sheena was murdered and a murder case has been registered against my mother (Indrani), driver Shyam Rai and my biological father Sanjeev Khanna. I contacted Mr Khanna. He took it very casually and said ‘ha ha’ and disconnected the call,” Vidhie says.

“During 2009-2010, I came to know that Sheena was my mother’s daughter as communicated by Rahul to my father Peter. I enquired with my mother and she said Rahul is lying as he wants his Peter to divorce her,” Vidhie says.

What Rahul wrote to Peter

Among the numbers of emails seized in the charge sheet, it is Rahul who has sent the first email to Peter Mukherjea, asking him if he had “heard anything from Sheena?” “Still mighty strange. Apparently no contact w(ith) anyone i.e. colleague or anyone else,” he wrote. Getting suspicious over Sheena’s sudden disappearance he says that Sheena hasn’t taken any stuff from home at all, therefore “her leaving seemed to be rushed or unplanned”. The next sentence shows that even Sheena’s biological father Siddhartha Das was aware of Sheena’s ‘sudden disappearance’. Rahul writes, “No response from her cellphone, by me, or her friends, or her father.” He also expresses surprise over no activity, by otherwise “very active” Sheena, on Facebook after April 21, 2012.

He continues writing that he has received “dodgy (contradictory)” responses from Sheena’s mobile on April 25. His mail says, “In the past, Indrani has sent emails and texts from other people’s acct/phone.” And then he asks the all-important question: “Indrani claims she is fine but doesn’t want to talk!! what?! to ANYBODY!!?” (sic) “It’s mighty strange,” he says.

Rahul ends his mail on a cautious note. He says, “I can deal with a break-up by myself, but this seems more like a missing person. There may be trouble ahead.”
In an another short mail which Rahul writes to his father reads, “See I’ve been struggling to accept all of this and I really need some genuine answers. I'm worried for Sheena. I mean this is all just too strange. What say?”

What Peter replied to Rahul

Below is the reply of Peter Mukerjea to Rahul’s mail the same evening: Hi love, I maintain my earlier position that Sheena is fine and if anyone asks you about her, ask them to call Indrani. If they are really concerned, maybe they will feel more relaxed after that. Obviously, she is clearly not keen to have anyone be in touch with her or that she is in touch with those people she wants to be in touch with. I don’t see Mikhail or her folks in Guwahati getting stressed about her whereabouts.

She texted you and me and Indrani back in April on the 25th and then she’s either gone off FB or changed everything — her Facebook page, her Skype id and her phone no. too and when she wishes to come out into the open I guess she will.

I think you are wasting your time and breath in worrying about her. In the last month if she wanted to get in touch with you she would have but you have to assume that she doesn’t. If her so-called father and friends are so concerned then why don’t they call Indrani or the people in Guwahati particularly if you are telling them that you have no idea either. What else can I say? She’s played you and now gone to something else. If I were you, I would have told her this — just leave it and get on with your life.

In reply to this email Rahul writes

WHY CAN’T SHE SPEAK FOR HERSELF? And so-called father means what? His name is Siddhartha Das and he is her biological dad. Not so-called father, just as Indrani is her mother, not sister. Why don’t you do your own homework instead of just believing all the crap that you are fed... SO CALLED JIJU! Papa you are almost worse.

I’ll bring him to Bristol so we can both get some answers ok. It’ll be nice meet and greet for everyone I’m sure.
