New drugs, a ray of hope for HIV+

The drug which has been tested and has shown good results is being used in the West

Kakinada: Some new drugs have helped improve the quality of life of HIV-infected patients.

HPTN 52 has shown good results, said state’s founder of AIDS Awareness Group Dr Vadrevu Ravi who is giving this drug free to 1,200 patients.

Dr Ravi explained, “HPTN 52 provides lasting protection against sexual transmission of the virus from infected man or woman to the HIV uninfected sexual partners.”

This drug has shown a marked improvement in the life of the infected persons who can lead a normal life.

Dr Ravi said, “Proper care and treatment by the patient will prolong life of an infected patient by 15 to 20 years. The treatment must be uninterrupted and there must be regular tests conducted for side-effects.”
