BMRCL halted Bus Rapid Transit System?
Bengaluru: While there are talks going on at BMRCL to connect Silk Board and K R Puram, there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the entire project. Sources say that the metro lobby stopped the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) around Silk Board and ORR to bring in the metro. Meanwhile citizens and experts say the project should be taken up with immediate effect and run parallel with Phase 2, as waiting for it to be included in Phase 3 and 4 will serve no purpose.
Hinting at the fact that the project will not be taken up any time soon, a BMRCL official said, “It is still at the talks level. There are many things that we have to look into before we take up something of this sort. We have to look into the finance, land acquisition; after all, this is going to be a stretch of 20-22 kms. We need to understand that the metro is a very capital-intensive project so it will take time for us to come to a final conclusion on this matter. We cannot say now whether it will be included in Phase 3 or 4.”
However, urban expert R K Misra has a positive attitude to the project and says, “Things are done from the metro end, it is the state government who needs to push it and take a call. As far as I know, BMRCL is quite interested in the project. If you observe the metro design from Silk Board and KR Puram, it is designed so that it can be connected. But it has to be taken up simultaneously with Phase 2, otherwise there is no point. I have spoken to K J George about this and he will soon talk to the Chief Minister about it.”
