Condemn AAP's malicious intent, resolutely behind Arun Jaitley: BJP
New Delhi: Union Minister and senior BJP leader Smriti Irani reacted strongly to the allegations leveled on Arun Jaitley by the Aam Aadmi Party over the Delhi cricket association scam.
“There is no substances in the charges made by AAP,” Irani said, adding, “The report being waved is not an investigation of the AAP representatives but of the DDCA itself.”
"BJP resolutely stands behind Jaitley and condemns AAP's malicious attempts to deflect public attention from a corrupt officer. It is a blasphemous and preposterous campaign bordering on political hysteria,” she said.
“This is a blatant effort by AAP to shield a corrupt official. It also betrays the principals of Anna Hazare,” she said.
Earlier, Venkaiah Naidu too called AAP’s demand for Jaitley’s resignation “absurd” and a “non-issue” as there was no wrongdoing involved.
“There is no question of resignation of Arun Jaitley ji. They (AAP) are playing their political cards as this is not an issue,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said.
The AAP has accused Jaitley of being involved in “huge financial bunglings” while he chaired the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) from 1999 to 2013. The party is due on Thursday to make some “major revelations” about the “DDCA scam”.
Naidu said: “This is an absurd issue and it has no relevance at all. He (Jaitley) has not done anything wrong, so why should he quit?”
By hiding its own misdeeds AAP is claiming that the whole world is dishonest, he added.
