A video that has recently surfaced reveals the appalling cruelty meted out towards rats before they are prepared for the food markets. Although rats are considered a normal part of Chinese cuisine, the ordeal that the creatures in the video had to go through has shocked people all over the world.
The footage features a restaurant worker in China pulling live rats out of a cage and then dunking them in buckets full of steaming hot liquid. Other dead rats and clumps of hair can also be seen in the clip. Several other people are also shown plucking out fur from the rat’s bodies using their bare hands. China also has one of the worst rates of animal cruelty in the world, according to the Daily Mail.
The shocking video has garnered thousands of views since the time it was posted online. Viewer discretion is advised as the clip might be too graphic for some people to watch.
