Kejriwal sings old FM tune, Arun Jaitley fumes
New Delhi: Keeping up the attack on Union finance minister Arun Jaitley, the AAP on Thursday alleged huge financial bungling in the Delhi District Cricket Association during his 13-year tenure as its chief, saying large amounts were siphoned off through fake firms and other irregularities, including in team selection.
Hitting back, Mr Jaitley accused Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal of spreading “false propaganda”, saying he seemed to believe in untruth and defamation and “language that borders on hysteria”. Mr Jaitley also attacked West Bengal and Bihar CMs Mamata Banerjee and Nitish Kumar for supporting Mr Kejriwal, saying “they need to redeem themselves” by publicly distancing from the Delhi CM’s vocabulary.
Fishing in troubled waters, Congress leader Digvijay Singh said a JPC should examine the matter and former cricketer and BJP MP Kirti Azad, should head the panel. Escalating his attack on the finance minister, Mr Kejriwal demanded that he resign or be “removed” from the Union Cabinet to enable an independent probe into the alleged corruption.
In a series of tweets, Mr Kejriwal said: “Can Jaitleyji’s denial in the press be taken as gospel truth? Very serious allegations against him. Why is he running away from investigations? ... If Jaitleyji were let off without investigation on basis of his press denial, then should all the coal and 2G accused also be similarly let off?”
