Hoverboards are the hottest new trend and they are on fire, quite literally!

One of the hottest new trend of the year 2015 were the hoverboards. They are expensive but widely popular. However, the trend probably got too hot to handle, and the hoverboards started to catch on fire — literally fire!

Lately, a lot of users complained that their hoverboards have been burning up suddenly.

Reports online suggest, that the problem is due to the lithium-ion batteries that it sports. Although a lot of everyday tech around us, from smartphones to Boeings, uses these batteries, two reasons have been suggested that may be causing the issue. One, these batteries are a lot more powerful than the ones used in a smartphone or a laptop, because it needs enough power to move you around. Since that much of energy is trapped in a tiny space, it leads to heating up and eventually catching fire. The second reason is a lot more simple that some of these hoverboards may be using a low quality battery.

However, there are some precautions that can be taken to prevent big damages. Hoverboards users must ensure not to overcharge them; also, always make sure not to plug it to charge indoors.
