Facebook to support Apple’s live photos

Live photos, a hallmark of the iPhone 6s, can now be uploaded to Facebook.

Apple’s ‘live photo’ feature will soon be compatible with Facebook. The social network recently updated its platform to support Apple’s new feature but as with every new change, it has only been rolled out to a small set of users to gauge the reaction. The feature is expected to be rolled out in full to all users next year.

Apple’s live photos capture a second and a half video before and after a photo, along with sound, that gives the feel of a GIF. Users need to have the iOS 9 platform on their iPhone or iPad to be able to activate the live photo feature on Facebook. Similarly all those who want to view the live feature of the photo must also have iOS 9 or a higher version on their apple devices. Live photos are the hallmark feature of the iPhone 6S version.

Live photos can be uploaded to Facebook the same way normal images are uploaded to the social networking site. Live photos will be highlighted in the camera roll by three concentric circles in the bottom right corner of the photo.

Apple released the ‘Live photos’ feature almost three months back and it is slowly gaining acceptance with third parties. As of now, Tumblr and Facebook support the live photo feature on their respective platforms. Other platforms and developers could also be looking to get in to support the live photo feature.

When the ‘Live photo’ feature is ‘on’, your apple device will record an added one-and-a-half second along with audio to every photo you click but you need to save it for it to become a ‘Live Photo’.

The photo will otherwise remain just a normal photo. The best feature of ‘Live photo’ is that you can capture a moment as both a photo and a small video especially with a focal point. For example, you can take the picture of a kid blowing out her birthday candles and have both the picture and a small video (live photo) of the moment.
