Vizag port for the first time handled highest draft vessel in inner harbour.

Visakhapatnam: In a significant development, Vizag port, for the first time handled, highest draft vessel in inner harbour on Monday. MV Vishwa Preethi, having 14.5 metres draft, carrying steam coal from South Africa, has been berthed in the inner harbour. This comes after Vizag port spent almost Rs 320 crores on dredging of the inner harbour channel. The panamax vessel was berthed in the inner harbour at the EQ berth 1 of Adani Vizag coal terminal and this is the highest draft vessel ever handled in the inner harbour in the history of Vizag port.
M’s Sai Samrat shipping agency are the shipping agents. The two dredging projects taken up by the port at an estimated expenditure of nearly Rs 320 crores, paved way for handling the fully laden Panamax vessels of 14.5 metres in the inner harbour, said a senior official of the Vizag port.
On September 28, gearless Panamax vessel MV NAVIOS CENTAURUS carrying 74,1000 MT of petroleum coke, with a draft of 14 metres was berthed in the inner harbour at EQ 8 berth. Vizag port has undertaken dredging work since May, 2013 which is nearly completed with a depth of 16.1 metres to handle all types of fully laden Panamax vessels in the inner harbour.
