1,800 km highway for Telangana
Nitin Gadkari announced that the Centre will support Telangana in the laying of the 1,800 km of highway.
Warangal: Union minister for road transport & highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari announced that the Centre will support Telangana in the laying of the 1,800 km of highway at a cost of Rs 16,500 crore. He was addressing a public meeting at Madikonda on Monday after laying the foundation stone for four laning of Yadagiri-Warangal se-ction of NH-163 and inaugurating a high level bridge across the river Godavari at Mullakatta in Eturnagaram.
Stating that roads bring prosperity to the nation, he said he is happy to announce that the central government has sanctioned Rs 41,000 crore worth of road projects for Telangana. The minister said the Centre believe that development of all states was important and was ready to work with the Telangana government for its development. He announced that a decision was taken to build a green express highway between Hyderabad and Bengaluru along with Hyderabad–Vijayawada expressway and develop Bhadrachalam– Koutala Road to a highway. He also said water navigation on Godavari will happen soon.
He asked the state to send in DPRs for all these projects for approval. Chief Minister, K. Chandrashekar Rao thanked the minister for the announcements and said Mr Gadkari responded positively to the appeal made by the state and has given permission for construction of highways in the state. “We have taken the minister’s notice that in the whole of southern India Telangana has the least percentage of highways, which is just 2.25 per cent. The people of Telangana will always remember Mr Gadkari for this,” he said. Stating that Warangal is the second largest city in the state, the CM said Warangal is being developed at par with other metro cities in the country. He also appealed to the minister to consider reopening of the cement corporation of India in Hyderabad along with other issues about which he said he would write to the minister in the coming days.
