Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to be laid to rest in his ancestral town
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who died at a Delhi hospital on Thursday, will be laid to rest in his ancestral town of Bijbehara later in the day.
The Chief Minister breathed his last around 7.30 am, Education Minister and spokesman for Government Nayeem Akhter said.
79-year-old Sayeed, detected with sepsis, decreased blood counts and pneumonia, was admitted to the hospital on December 24, with complains of neck pain and fever.
Sayeed was admitted in AIIMS for the past 14 days. He was in the Intensive Care Unit of AIIMS and during hospitalisation his platelets had dropped dangerously low. For the past few days, the Chief Minister was on a ventilator.
"Mufti Sahib will be buried at his ancestral graveyard at Bijbehara today," PDP general secretary Rafi Ahmad Mir said.
According to PDP sources, the mortal remains of the Chief Minister will be flown in from Delhi this afternoon and taken to his Gupkar residence for allowing the party workers and general public to pay their last respects.
The body will be later taken to Bijbehara town, 41 kms from here, in south Kashmir Anantnag district for burial, the sources said.
