Walmart in deal with Telangana

Company would be looking at opening its outlets in the western and eastern parts of the city.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has signed three MoUs with global retail giant Walmart on Tuesday for setting up more cash and carry outlets in the state. Currently, Walmart India has a wholesale store at Shivrampally in the city.

Initially, the company would be looking at opening its outlets in the western and eastern parts of the city.

Apart from Hyderabad, the US supermarket major is looking at setting up 5 to 6 stores in other cities of Telangana such as Warangal, Nizamabad, Khammam and Ramagundam in the next five years.

Walmart will help in giving fillip to women entrepreneurship in retail sector, purchase fruits and vegetables from newly formed horticulture corporation and provide training to Krushi mart, a wing of Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty as per the MoUs.

During the MoU signing ceremony, the Telangana government was represented by IT, panchayat raj and municipal administration minister K T Rama Rao, IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan while Walmart was represented by vice-president Enrique Ostale.
