Mysuru: Air Deccan founder Captain G.R. Gopinath has disclosed that he is relaunching a low cost airline to connect small airports and small cities including Mysuru in a couple of months.
Regretting selling off his airlines to liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya, the aviation veteran said that since there was an agreement with Mallya that he would not start another airline for six years, he had to hold on. With the launch of the Udaan programme of the Union government, the atmosphere is conducive to relaunch the airline, he said.
Captain Gopinath was speaking after litterateur S.L. Bhyrappa released his latest book, ‘You Cannot Miss This Flight’-a collection of essays on emerging India, at a programme hosted by Mysuru literary forum charitable trust, Book Clubs-2015 and HarperCollins Publishers.
Speaking on the decline in growth rate, demonetisation and the kind of India now emerging he said, “Autonomous institutions must be created both at the Centre and in the states, independent of the government. We need far reaching administrative reforms, police reforms and judicial reforms. When we can spend Rs 4500 crores on subsidies, why not Rs 50,000 crores on judicial reforms?” he asked.
His advice to young entrepreneurs? “Dream big, begin your ventures, listen to your inner voice without waiting for anyone’s blessing. There is no short cut even for a genius, so they have to have persevere and not give up. Perseverance has to be combined with inexhaustible optimism and enthusiasm.”
