Sudhindra Thirtha Swamiji leaves his divine Padukas behind

The temple authorities gave a silver coating to the Padukas

Kochi: Shrimath Sudhindra Thirtha Swamiji, twentieth Mathadhipati of Shree Kashi Math Samsthan, who attained ‘mukthi’ at Haridwar Shri Vyas Ashram early Sunday, last visited the Tirumala Devaswom Temple, Ernakulam, back in 1997.

It was the desire of the Gowda Saraswatha Brahmana Mahasabha community here to invite the twentieth Mathadhipati of Shree Kashi Math Samsthan to visit the temple where the latter spent a majority of his childhood days in meditation.

“We called on the Guru in September last and conveyed the desire. He promised to come here once his health condition improved. However, he did not want to disappoint us and hence gave his ‘Padukas’ (divine footwear),” said Adv Ram Narayan Prabhu, Management Committee Member, Ernakulam Thirumala Devaswom.

The temple authorities gave a silver coating to the ‘Padukas’ and scheduled January 16 as the date of installation at the temple.

“Patta-Shishya Shrimath Samyamindra Thirtha Swamiji who was already at the Ambalamedu Math was scheduled to lead the rituals associated with it on January 16. However, the entire programme was cancelled after the health condition of Sudhindra Thirtha Swamiji worsened. Samyamindra Swamiji left for Bombay where his Guru was undergoing treatment,” the official said.

Meanwhile, all institutions except hospitals run by the Gowda Saraswatha Brahmana Mahasabha, Kerala, will remain closed on Monday as a mark of respect to ‘Guru’ Sudhindra Thirtha Swamiji.
